Pastoe Side table set with magazine rack by Cees Braakman

€695,00

This is a beautiful set of three side tables.

Black lacquered base and perforated newspaper rack, with a top of teak wood.

This is a rare set, presumably from the th series of Braakman for Pastoe.

Finding the amalgamation between technical perfection and aesthetic form, that's where the challenge lies for me '.

The Dutch Cees Braakman (1917-1995) meant a lot to Pastoe.
Cees Braakman started his career at the age of 17 at UMS PasToe, where he learned the basics of furniture making.

He was head of the Pastoe design team from 1945-1978.
After WWII he studied American design and production processes in America.
Partly inspired by the work of Charles and Ray Eames, Braakman introduced the first modern designs at UMS PasToe, which made use of the curved plywood technique.

Partly thanks to Braakman's efficient designs, UMS PasToe achieved great success in the 1950s and 1960s.
Especially the modular cabinets, which could be combined in different ways, are among his more famous designs.

In 1958 he designed one of the first chairs to be made entirely of wire steel; the SM05.
The timeless design of SM05 has been adapted to the dimensions of the current time and taken back into production.
The wire construction gives the chair a spatial effect. The cushion and the shape of the backrest ensure a comfortable seat.

Braakman remained head of the UMS PasToe design department until 1978 and is without doubt one of the Netherlands' most influential designers.
